Up to now I thought that social or natural eLearning faces a serious problem because the certificates which are required are in opposition to the open and collaborative dynamics.

I will be using a Wiki in a university course. I hop that students will collaborate, build on each others work, and maybe even learn something. Great. My fear is that the external necessity of awarding them Credit Points will turn all their intrinsically motivated, expansive learning into extrinsically motivated defensive learning.

What Graham Attwell pointed out to me, is that maybe these traditional methods of assessment are not that good. So maybe this discrepancy is not one that eLearning has to resolve…
